Belotero® is a cosmetic dermal filler that is a little bit different than all the other hyaluronic acid fillers. Belotero tends to be a little softer and swells a little less. Although no hyaluronic filler is perfect for injecting individual wrinkles, Belotero can be used to soften the appearance of some fairly deep wrinkles.
All hyaluronic acid fillers can exhibit something called the Tindal effect. The Tindal effect is where the filler reflects more blue green light than other colors of light which can give a prolonged bruised appearance if the filler is injected too close to the surface of the skin. Because Belotero does not reflect blue green light as much as other hyaluronic acid fillers, it can be used more superficially which can be very useful when a filler needs to be injected close to the surface of the skin. Like all other hyaluronic acid fillers Belotero can be dissolved if there are problems.
What are some uses for of Belotero®?
One of the more popular treatments performed with Belotero is injecting the tear troughs. The tear troughs are the grooves underneath the eye which filled with tears when people cry. This area can be very tricky to treat. The reason it is so tricky to treat the tear troughs is because the skin over the tear troughs is very thin. Any excess filler in this area will show up as a swelling. Dr. Sinclair has been Successfully treating tear troughs successfully for many years.
Another good place to use Belotero is in women who want their lips enhanced but have fairly small lips to begin with. Because Belotero is softer than most other fillers and because it swells less, the result can be very beautiful and natural in appearance.Belotero® is not a permanent treatment. Although Belotero can last a year or longer the result tends to disappear sooner. This is because, like all hyaluronic acid fillers, Belotero tends to spread out and slowly dissolve. Some people are happy with results for over a year and others want retreatment after just a few months. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.
What are the side effects of Belotero®?
Side effects of Belotero® are very similar to all other hyaluronic acid fillers. There may be bruising, redness at the injection site, tenderness and swelling. With rare exception that the side effects are small and generally resolve quickly without any additional treatment.
